Understanding how PrintReleaf reforestation works

Summary

PrintReleaf is a sustainability platform that automatically reforests the equivalent of your paper consumption. 

By integrating with 3manager, your printing volumes are securely transferred to PrintReleaf, converted into trees planted in certified reforestation projects around the world, and documented with certificates you can share with customers.

How it works

• Paper consumption is measured and converted into a number of “standard trees.” 
   
• One standard tree equals an average tree with a height of 40 feet and a diameter of 7 inches. 
   
• PrintReleaf uses internationally recognised methods such as the Environmental Paper Network Paper Calculator to make the conversions accurate.
   
• The equivalent number of trees are then planted into reforestation projects managed by certified PrintReleaf partners. 
   
• Only volume data is shared, no device details or IP addresses.
   
• Each project is audited by independent third-party organisations such as SGS, Preferred by Nature or Veritree. 
   
• Audits check survival rates of planted trees compared to what was funded. 
   
• If trees are lost, they are replanted in the same project or in another certified PrintReleaf project.

Certification and guarantees

• All projects and partners must comply with the PrintReleaf Standard. This includes organisational requirements, reforestation expertise, financial stability, field operations, and independent auditing. 
   
• PrintReleaf guarantees 100% net survival. If survival falls below this level, additional trees are planted until the shortfall is corrected.
   
• Certificates are issued digitally and can be downloaded or sent by email. They prove how many trees have been planted on behalf of your organisation or your end customers.

Involvement of local communities

• Local communities are often involved in the planting and management of projects, depending on the region.
• Each project description on the PrintReleaf website details who is involved and how the project is managed.

Costs

• Reforestation costs are not part of the 3manager license. PrintReleaf is invoiced separately on a monthly basis unless otherwise agreed.

How is pricing calculated

• PrintReleaf plants more than 8,000 trees per day by pooling buying power across many partners.
• This scale lowers the cost per tree while keeping quality high.
• The goal is to make reforestation accessible and achievable for all print providers and their customers.
