Summary
EWS AnyWhere lets you access a printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) remotely through 3manager.
It works for network-connected devices and gives you the same experience as if you were connected directly on-site using the printer’s IP in a browser.
This article explains how it works, how to install it, and what to do if something is not working.
How it works
- EWS AnyWhere uses a secure reverse proxy to connect your browser to the printer’s EWS through 3manager.
- All communication is encrypted via SSL/TLS and the printer’s IP address is masked.
- Sessions automatically close after 15 minutes of inactivity and each connection URL is unique to your computer for security.
- Only devices discovered by the Data Collector linked to the same Location ID as the EWS AnyWhere installation will display the EWS button in 3manager.
Installation
- In 3manager, go to Account → Settings → Integrations and click Configure on the EWS AnyWhere option.
- Download and run the installer on the client’s computer. Enter the Location ID from the existing Data Collector: If installed on the same computer as the Data Collector, the ID will be filled automatically.
- If installed on a different computer, copy the Location ID from 3manager and paste it in.
- Click Save. If the EWS button does not appear, change the Location ID to another value, save, then change it back.
Accessing EWS AnyWhere
- Open the device page in 3manager and click the EWS AnyWhere button in the top right corner.
- The printer’s EWS will open in a new browser tab. If it does not open, check that pop-ups from 3manager are allowed.
Security features
- All traffic is encrypted (SSL/TLS). IP addresses are hidden from the client side.
- Access is only possible when logged into 3manager. Integrated firewall, logging, and DDoS protection. Session timeout after 15 minutes.
Ports used
- 443 – For encrypted communication between your device and the printer. 36161 – For the EWS service connection.
Troubleshooting
EWS button not visible:
- Check the Location ID. Refresh your browser. Reset the Location ID as described above.
EWS not opening:
- Allow pop-ups from 3manager in your browser. If using HTTPS causes login issues, try removing the “s” in “https” temporarily, then add it back after logging in.
EWS button only on some devices:
- The EWS agent only works with devices discovered by the Data Collector linked to its Location ID.
- Install EWS AnyWhere on each network that has its own Data Collector and match the Location ID.
